Listen. Contemplate. Be attentive to the stirrings of your heart in this Advent season and in your faith journey.
This Advent Mission Discernment Retreat is an opportunity to reflect on one’s call to mission, to learn more about what a commitment to overseas service entails and to consider whether this might be the next step in your own journey. Retreatants will meet current and returned Maryknoll missioners; listen to mission stories; and engage in small group reflection and discussion. The retreat will conclude with Mass and a light dinner. There will be time to socialize and also time for individual reflection. Retreatants will receive guidance from Maryknoll mentors and will also learn about the admission requirements, application process and placement options.
For those traveling from out of town, lodging is available at Catholic Theological Union on the night before the retreat. The retreat will begin at 10am and end at 4:30pm. The cost is $30 which includes parking, lunch and dinner. Space is limited. Please email Lindsay Doucette at email@example.com by Friday, December 2nd to reserve a space.
Sending Ceremony, Saturday, Dec. 10
Location: Annunciation Chapel, Maryknoll Sisters, 10 Pinesbridge Road, Ossining, NY
Time: 2:30 PM
The Sending ceremony has four main elements; the calling forth, the blessing of the water and the crosses, putting on the mission cross and the sending forth. This is a joyous conclusion to a long process of mutual discernment and the 10 weeks of preparation in the Orientation Program. When the new missioners receive their mission crosses, they are called forth by a current or returned missioner who has served in the country to which they are assigned.
Marie Dennis, Co-President of Pax Christi International and former Director of the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, will be the speaker. Representatives of the Maryknoll Society, Congregation and Affiliates participate in the Sending Ceremony.
Please see this post for more details. The ceremony will be streamed live on this Web site.
Covenant Ceremony, Thursday, Dec. 8

Time: 10:00 AM
Covenant Ceremony- Dec. 8, 10 am, Rogers Chapel, Rogers Building, Maryknoll Sisters
The new missioners enter into a covenant, based in our ancient Judeo-Christian tradition, with God, the Church and with Maryknoll Lay Missioners by proclaiming and signing the covenant based on Maryknoll Lay Missioners’ 8 Core Values. This covenant is witnessed by the assembly, chosen witnesses and signed by those witnesses and Maryknoll Lay Missioners leadership. Immediately before the covenant is signed, the new missioners are invited to proclaim the covenant together with other Maryknoll Lay Missioners present, both currently contracted and returned.
The celebrant for the Mass will be Fr. Jack Rathschmidt, OFM Cap., who has offered the Scripture workshops for the Orientation Programs for nearly 20 years.
