Joe Regotti to Celebrate 15 years as Missioner

Joe shares parts of his missioner journey with us.
This August will mark an important anniversary for me – my 15th year as a Maryknoll Lay Missioner! Will you celebrate with me?

By the time I graduated from Notre Dame in 1982 I had studied at a Jesuit University in Mexico City and had discovered my vocation – a vocation to mission as a Catholic lay person.

Within months of graduation I was on my way to Chile as a Holy Cross lay missioner. I was blessed with the privilege of working with Chilean Catholics in community organizing under the protective umbrella of the Church, in the extremely repressive regime of General Pinochet. I’m pleased to say that the dictator is gone and the subsistence farmers with whom I worked to develop sustainable organic farming are still there!

Marj Humphrey receives the DeSmet Medal

We are very pleased to share that Marjorie Humphrey (Class of 1987), has been honored by her Alma mater, Gonzaga University at their 119th Commencement Exercises in Spokane, WA. Marj returned from overseas mission in 2007 and currently serves on the MKLM Board of Directors.

Marj received the DeSmet Medal, the University’s highest award, named after Father Peter DeSmet, S.J., the pioneer Jesuit missionary in the Northwest. The DeSmet Medal honors men and women whose lives are expressions of the University’s ideals of personal character, religious faith and Christian service.  Marj was honored at the President’s Dinner on Friday, May 11 and delivered the Commencement Address at the graduation ceremony for Gonzaga graduate students on May 12, 2012.
