Meet A Missioner – Margarita Duran – Brazil – Class of 2017

Today, we continue our #MeetaMissionerMonday series by introducing one of our newest missioners, Margarita Duran (Cambodia). Margarita has a BA degree in Criminology and Psychology from University of New Mexico. She has worked as a customer service representative and as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant. She has volunteered since she was a teenager as a religious education teacher in her parish and has also assisted with Vacation Bible School. She also leads confirmation and youth group retreats.

Margarita, who grew up in Tecate, Mexico, has always wanted to do mission work ever since she was a child. She comes to MKLM having grown up with the Maryknoll Magazine in her home growing up. Her own father referred her to the MKLM program back in February 2017.

Margarita said she fell in love with the Lay Missioner program and is very excited about serving in Brazil. She said she has always been interested in the languages and cultures of South America. With her background in criminology and education, Margarita feels she will bring a lot to the people she will serve in Brazil.

Please join us in praying for Margarita as she begins this meaningful chapter in her life. We hope that you wish her well and support her in her endeavors. To learn more about MKLM and the good work that you can make possible, please visit www.mklm.org.

Please share Margarita’s story and Maryknoll Lay Missioner with others, especially committed Catholics who may be discerning God’s call to serve.
