Ministry: Works with children, people in the situation of the streets, and prisoners
Claire spent a year as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, working with asylum seekers in Houston, TX. She was a member of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish while living in Houston, and participated in service outreach programs through the church. She travelled to El Salvador and the Dominican Republic on immersion trips while a student at Spring Hill College. She taught ESL for four years through Spring Hill’s work study program. She volunteered at Little Sisters of the Poor in Mobile and the Missionaries of Charity in Bologna, Italy and Houston. In college, she participated in track and field and cross country.
Claire ministers to the homeless at Arsenal de Esperança, a shelter that houses 1200 men, and Amigos do Sopão, a meal delivery project. She visits prisons on pastoral teams that facilitate faith sharing and prayer services. Her ministry activities also including teaching art to the children of refugees and immigrants at the Casa de Acolhida and participating in activities for children at the Santa Cruz parish while their immigrant parents are in Portuguese class.
Claire says, “I have come to understand that MKLM stands for a humility that aims to cross borders, enter hearts and transform the world with hope. This is something I will strive for and I am strongly invested in.”
