September 1, 2017 – Maryknoll, NY — Sam Stanton, Executive Director of Maryknoll Lay Missioners (MKLM), and his wife, Cecilia Espinoza, Manager of the MKLM programs, Always a Missioner (AAM) and Friends Across Borders (FAB), will speak at the inaugural MISSIO Congress. Taking place September 5-7, 2017 at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida, and hosted by the Pontifical Mission Societies, the MISSIO Congress goals are to:

  • Strengthen the identity and missionary commitment of the Church
  • Reimagine mission animation and formation in the digital age
  • Gather important insights for an increasingly intercultural Catholic Church in the United States
  • Prepare a delegation to represent the United States Catholic Church with genuine solidarity at the Continental Missionary Congress (CAM V) to be held in Bolivia in July 2018.

Sam and Cecilia, who have spent the majority of their lives in mission along with their three children, will lead a forum discussion on “Family on Mission Domestically and Abroad.” Sam and Cecilia have both been with MKLM since 1985. Sam has been Executive Director of MKLM since 2008. Cecilia, a native of Chile, has been the Manager of AAM and FAB since 2004.
The Pontifical Mission Societies, known in some countries as Missio, represents a group of Catholic missionary societies under the jurisdiction of the Pope. They include the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the Apostle, the Holy Childhood Association and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. Since 1922, Missio has been the Catholic Church’s official support organization for overseas missions.
