Personal Data:
Greg is a native of Chicago City, Minnesota, and a 1990 graduate of the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining Maryknoll, Greg served four years as a U.S. Army chaplain assistant and was assigned to posts in Oklahoma and Germany. Later, as a domestic lay missioner, Greg worked with programs serving rural low-income families in north Florida and the chronically homeless of inner-city Philadelphia. Greg has also worked with refugees and immigrants from other East African nations as well as from Haiti and Vietnam. He is married with two daughters and resides in Hopkins, Minnesota.

MKLM Work:
In 1992, Greg joined Maryknoll Lay Missioners and was sent to Kenya where he lived in, Kangemi, a shanty town community on the outskirts of Nairobi with another Maryknoll Lay Missioner, Kevin Mestrich. The parish, St. Joseph the Worker, was served by the Jesuits; Pope Francis visited it when in Kenya recently. Greg served with a small justice and peace program helping communities broken by violent conflict to develop local efforts in peace and reconciliation. In addition, the organization assisted refugees and internally displaced Kenyans while also brokering dialogue among warring faction leaders. As part of his work, Greg was sent to the Rwanda/Tanzania border during the genocide that unfolded in 1994 in neighboring Rwanda. When Greg returned to the states from Kenya he discerned a vocation to the priesthood and spent a couple of years in the seminary process. The outcome of his discernment was that he was called to ministry but as a lay person.

Current Work:
Greg served on staff with the Mission Education and Promotion Department of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers in the Midwest. He now works in their Vocations Ministries Department. Through this work he is able to encourage young people to embrace their baptismal call to mission and accompany those who are considering priesthood, religious life or lay mission service. Greg currently serves as Vice President on the Maryknoll Lay Missioner Board of Directors and is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. Greg has been great in carrying out a number of parish church dates for MKLM.
